Hotson Studio

Whilst Ana Almeida's business cards were going through the printing press, I decided to print some new ones for the studio at the same time. Printed letterpress using rare founder's type Palatino on super-weighty 700gsm Colourplan Candy Pink, Powder Green, Pale Grey and Cool Blue. The white version was printed on 640gsm Saunders Waterford high white watercolour paper. Posters and other stationery items are also shown.

A letterpress printed poster displaying a friendly yet sinister warning to naive outsiders. The warning
carries ominous undertones and the overall composition features a pale green moon. The condensed
Gill Sans woodletter used was printed in dense black ink on a 1960s 24a Farley proofing press
at Typoretum.

These posters are a personal tribute to 19th century English radical and author of ‘Rural Rides’ William Cobbett, where I took quotes from his work and typeset them by hand in Baskerville at Britain’s foremost
fine printing press Gwasg Gregynog. Both pieces include an illustration of an oak tree cross-section
which was etched into brass relief plates. Both were printed on a Soldans Proofmaster proofing press
onto antique handmade paper.

A nautically-themed poster depicting a very wise-sounding African proverb, which I letterpress printed
at printing press Typoretum. I worked on an 1851 24"x18" Hopkinson & Hope Albion Press and the
piece was printed onto antique hand-made paper using 8-line Old Style Italic woodletter and 30pt
Granby Light. De Little wavy rules were used as an embellishment to represent the sea.
